the problem

Improper tire pressure reduces driving range and vehicle safety and increases charging costs and tire wear. Charging EVs takes 15 minutes to several hours – once done, drivers need move to another location to air up.

Motor_Trend-Logo.wine.png

“The easiest way to negatively impact an EV's range is to drive it on underinflated tires - even being low by a few PSI can make a meaningful difference in rolling resistance and therefore efficiency.”     -

Software
overview

  • Integrated software connects via the charging cord or wirelessly to the vehicle’s Controller Area Network (CAN bus) and Tire Inflation Warning System to collect, predict and provide data

  • Information will include alerts to inflate or deflate tires, the corresponding battery range that the vehicle will gain, cost savings generated, extended tire and battery life data, and safety tips

  • Data collected will be available to vehicle owners, drivers, fleet companies, battery, vehicle and tire manufacturers, insurance providers, the DoT, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and others

Industry Data & Trends

  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 19% of drivers properly inflate their tires

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) alert drivers when air pressure drops 25% below the recommended level

  • NHSTA reports that low tire pressure reduces EV driving range by about 0.3% for every 1% reduction in tire pressure:

  • A 5% reduction would reduce driving range by 4 miles  25% reduction (TPMS data above) would reduce range by 20 miles

  • The NHTSA reports that properly inflated tires can extend the average life of a tire by 4,700 miles

  • The US government is funding the installation of 500,000 new public charging stations across the country

  • Many EV companies are moving to less expensive lithium LFP batteries that provide a shorter driving range

  • According to Research and Markets the global EV charging station market was US$ 6.97 Billion in 2021. Looking forward, the publisher expects the market to reach US$ 51.25 Billion by 2027

  • According to Mordor Intelligence the US EV charging market was valued at USD 573.95 million in 2020 and is expected to reach USD 4.204 billion in 2027 million, registering a CAGR of 44.43% during the forecast period
